In army fatigues,Mohanlal plays real-life soldier

A portion of the sprawling maidan inside the Army station here that houses the Defence Security Corps (DSC) and the 122 Infantry Battalion was almost a battlefield on Saturday.

Thick smoke, drifting from the bombs, engulfed the area and sounds of sniper fire filled the ground.

Amidst the columns of smoke, moved jawans in camouflage fatigues and military gear and veteran actor Mohanlal, who is the honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the Territorial Army.

The ambience of a shadow war was created at the grounds of the Territorial Army battalion stationed here, as part of Lt. Col. (Hon.) Mohanlal’s visit for an annual training. He was on a two-day visit to the battalion on Saturday. He arrived at the ground in the morning accompanied by battalion commandant B.S. Bali and other officers.

The arms training that he underwent include training in Indian Small Arms System weapons, which included assault rifles and light machine guns. There were also demonstrations of firing, rope climbing and drill to give Lt. Col. (Hon.) Mohanlal an update of the training regime in the battalion. He was also told of the fighting fitness of both the jawans and the weapons.

Mohanlal donated blood at the battalion as part of the blood donation camp held there. He interacted with cadets of the National Cadets Corps and the Bharat Scouts and Guides. The NCC cadets, too, donated blood. Film director Major Ravi was present during the training. Also present were battalion second-in-command Lt. Col. Edwin E. Raj, Major Ayub Khan and Subedar Major H. Vijayan.
