Mohanlal to act in Shakespeare's Tempest





Versatile Malayalam film actor Mohanlal plans to stage Shakespeare's 'Tempest', with the star donning the role of the protagonist sorcerer Prospero.

 

The show is being thought of by the actor to be part of the in-house production of JT Performing Arts Centre (JTPAC), the dream project of Mohanlal, chairman of the centre RPT chairman of the centre and entrepreneur friend Jose Thomas, its president.

 

Magician Gopinath Muthukad will also be part of the project, Mohanlal told reporters here and added that there were also plans to stage 'Nala and Damayanthi'.

 

The JTPAC will begin staging a variety of performing arts focusing on music, dance, theatre and folk art from Feb 26. Jose Thomas said they planned to rope in well known artistes from India and abroad, including US and Thailand, to perform at the centre which has world class facilities.

 

Following this, 'Rhythm', an artistic depiction of Mahatma Gandhi's dream 'Unity in Diversity' would be staged by a team of 65 artistes from around the world, Mohanlal said. The show will be a fusion of three forms of classical music of the world -- Carnatic, Hindustani and Western classical and a unique blend of traditional and contemporary dances of India.

 

The centre also has plans to launch its own productions, including musicals, theatre and dances directed by the world's leading artistes, Mohanlal said.
