Mohanlal slammed for endorsing multiple brands
His prudence in endorsing gold, liquor and financiers at the same time was celebrated in a lighter vein online. However, Malayalam film superhero Mohanlal's double standards seem to have touched a graver note this time.

Kaithari Thozhilali Congress (INTUC) has expressed its serious displeasure over the film star donning the role of handloom's goodwill ambassador and that of an endorser of a powerloom brand simultaneously.

The workers also said that it was grossly improper for Mohanlal to promote both handloom and powerloom and demanded that he should quit doing either of these.

The Congress urged Mohanlal endorsing the product of a powerloom as the greatest irony and betrayal of the entire handloom sector. In fact, the workers also went to the extent of saying that the avatar of the star as the brand ambassador could not do much to rejuvenate the handloom industry. "He was appointed to breathe fresh life into the waning handloom industry. However, it had the slightest impact on the handloom industry. How could he influence people when he appears on the screen for a totally different reason everyday?'' G Subodhan, general secretary, Kaithari Thozhilali Congress, asked.

They suggested that Mohanlal could follow Jagathy Sreekumar who backed out from promoting lottery ads of other states, when they sparked off a controversy. It was in June 2010, Mohanlal was appointed by the State Government as the goodwill ambassador of handloom industry to promote the production and sale of handloom products.

Recently, it was Shashi Tharoor's turn to take the sting from Left organisations for his 'endorsemeent' of Teacher's whisky.
